My husband and I spent the last three months preparing to move our family from one end of the Twin Cities to the other. We weren’t planning on a move this year, but with houses in our neighborhood selling quickly and a desire to be a little closer to family, we thought it would be a good opportunity to make it happen.

Almost every weekend we made the 45 minute drive to the west side. We visited parks with the kids, found out where the elementary schools were, drove past houses for sale, and even found which gym we’d be going to. We tried to imagine what life would be like and it got us really excited!

With our current house on the market, we started to seriously look at purchasing a different one. In fact, we put three different continent offers on homes in Eden Prairie! And you know what? For a variety of reasons, all three fell through. And although we were a little disappointed, it didn’t break us because something deep down in our hearts told us it was happening for a reason.

We battled and went back and forth about where we should live. We looked at more locations and browsed thousands of pictures online. We started to wonder if we were supposed to stay in Woodbury. That option didn’t seem nearly as exciting, but we knew we had to pursue it.

We found an older home that we were IN LOVE with. It had character, big trees, and even a swimming pool. It seemed perfect! Our offer was accepted! Inspection day came, and I didn’t think much of it. Then we learned that there were several issues that would require quite a bit of money to fix right away, and just like that, our FOURTH offer on a house had fallen through.

The day before this, our current house sold.

Now we were really confused. WHERE were we supposed to go from here?

Feeling defeated, we decided to drive around town and followed some signs for a new development not far from us. We looked at a few spec homes and started to get that feeling like we were REALLY CLOSE to what was next for us.

Within a couple days we landed on a home that seemed like it was designed for our family. It wasn’t what we had in mind. It was even BETTER! We went through some intense negotiating, and finally came to terms. We had a HOME!

It turned out that we took the scenic route to discover that right where we are is exactly where we’re supposed to be. When we sat down and talked about it, we reaffirmed for ourselves that we love our community. We love our schools. We love our church. We love our friends. We were digging roots here, and although another adventure seemed more exciting, we had all the excitement we needed in our backyard.

It’s interesting. I believe we were created with a nature to want MORE. To pursue MORE. To feel MORE.

But so often I mistake MORE for NEXT.

I spend my energy looking forward to what is to come, and sometimes I forget to soak up ALL that God has for me NOW. ESPECIALLY in my mom life! It can be so tough to be IN the moment when your toddler pitches a fit or your baby doesn’t sleep!

I believe God knew exactly where each of us would be at this very moment. He knew about our passions and gifts and the platforms we would have. I believe he was very purposeful in designing our lives. He made us to be uniquely significant and to have an eternal impact on the world around us.

Today, let’s take a minute and think about all the circumstances and decisions we’ve made up until this point that have gotten us where we are today. Isn’t it AMAZING to think about the journey we’re on?!

Maybe like us, you’re at a point where you are excited for the NEXT thing. Quite honestly, you need the NEXT thing to come. Can I remind you that God’s timing is always perfect?! Maybe NEXT is coming soon. It could even come five seconds from now! But right now, in this very moment in time, you are where you are for a reason.

There is always MORE available to us. There is always HOPE for the future.

Right now, rest assured that God knows exactly where you are, and He knows exactly what you need.

You are LOVED. To the very deepest part of your soul!

XOXO,

Amber

Thank you for this. I needed this BIG TIME today. We have a few “nexts” on the horizon and I needed a reminder that those “nexts” no matter how much I may be uncomfortable with them, are God’s plan. Thank you

Love this! Such a great reminder to be grateful for what we have and trust that God will lead us to where we are supposed to be <3

Love this and it’s so true– I struggle to be ‘in the moment’ and wonder if I’m where I need to be or why things aren’t happening quicker than I want. Thanks for writing this– it is exactly what I needed today!

I needed to read this too. We are in an adoption process that is stretching on and on–longer than we ever imagined or anticipated. And it’s h a r d. I am constantly having to re-focus and re-orient myself to soak up the now. Sweet years with just my husband before God (hopefully) adds kids to our mix. Thank you for those encouraging (and challenging!) words.
