Since becoming a mom, I’ve struggled to find a consistent time each day to spend with the Lord. Mornings had always been my favorite time of day to have quiet time, ensuring that any day that started with my Creator would keep my perspective clear and my attitude grateful.

My days start off much differently now. I usually sleep until Baylen sleeps, especially now that I’m pregnant and need any extra z’s I can get. This means that my quiet time in the morning doesn’t happen quite like it used to. Instead of having consolidated time right out of the gate, I find that I need to be more intentional throughout the day by taking advantage of moments when I can offer up a quick prayer, or read a devotional when Baylen’s playing by himself or napping.

It took my type A personality a while to get used to this method because I love structure and knowing exactly when and where I get to have time to myself with the Lord. However, after many months of having to “go with the flow” more, God has revealed himself to me in some pretty awesome new ways. I realized that before I tended to compartmentalize my time with Him to specific parts of the day, whereas now I’ve learned to welcome Him into even the most random moments. Instead of mentally checking off quiet time as a task for the day, I’ve learned that there is so much freedom in seeking the Lord more organically. I don’t have guilt anymore if I don’t spend “x” amount of time in prayer and reading the Bible, but instead know that the Holy Spirit is at work in my mind and heart all day long! The Lord knows the stage of life I’m in, and wants to meet me here.

More than ever before, I’m reminded that I need Jesus in every moment. Becoming a mom is an incredibly humbling experience. This little person is dependent on me for so much, while I often feel like I don’t have a clue what I’m doing! Nothing can adequately prepare you for the journey of motherhood, but by the grace of God we don’t have to do it on our own.

I’m reading through Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, which is an amazing devotional for anyone out there looking for a tool to keep you focused on seeking Jesus each day. On Friday, this quote hit me like a ton of bricks and provided such peace and hope to my soul. “Your awareness of your constant need for Me is your greatest strength.” It goes on to talk about the importance of praying simple, short prayers flowing out of the present moment. How awesome that when we feel inadequate, exhausted, or clueless we can go to Him and find the greatest strength in the world!

If there are any of you out there who feel distant from the Lord during the season of life you’re in, start by praying a simple prayer, that God would remind you how much you need Him. Find ways to incorporate Him into your lifestyle, however busy it may be. He loves you and wants to fill your emptiness with His Presence.

This week may we feel loved and cherished by our Creator, and may we depend on Him in EVERY MOMENT!

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances…” -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Question: How do you deepen your relationship with Jesus? What strategies work well for you?

May your gladness be full and complete this week, friends!

I totally agree! My routine used to be like yours pre-kids, and now I struggle with the same thing! I totally agree that when you intentionally take hold of the little moments it helps you stay focused on God more throughout the whole day instead of just one task or to-do. I love the quote from your devotional….nothing like being a Mommy to make you realize how much you need the ulitmate Father’s help!! amen!

I love Jesus Calling! It’s my favorite devotional and what I use. I also am very Type A and always want the “set” times but am working on adjusting to God being in every moment instead of set times. Thanks for the insight on your struggles…makes me feel more human!
