I’ve only been a mom for two years now, so I am pretty new to this whole deal. I have so much to learn, and am incredibly thankful for the more experienced moms in my life from who I glean loads of wisdom from. As I think about my day yesterday and the places I saw God in ordinary moments, they happened because someone encouraged me to look for Him there.Aunt Missy

My Aunt Missy is a stay-at-home-mom to four precious kiddos (Cam & Braydan not pictured). Her life is crazy busy, but she is always intentional about checking in with me and giving encouragement. She’s in tune with the Holy Spirit and I can’t tell you how many times the Lord has used her at the exact moment I needed it.

We chat about all sorts of mom things, and usually when we talk she gives me a few practical ideas to use along the way. One idea she gave me soon after Baylen was born was to pray over the laundry as I fold it for each family member. I dread laundry, but now when I fold Baylen’s little pants, I get to pray for his little body. When I’m folding Emersyn and Mckinley’s onesies, I pray for their little hearts. When I’m folding Jake’s scrubs, I pray for his day at work. And when I fold towels and other household items, I pray that our home is a place where the spirit of the Lord dwells richly. Laundry isn’t as painful when I get to talk to God about my family!

Another thing Missy told me is that she has Christian music playing in her house as much as possible. She loves to fill her soul with truth all day long. I love this, and also try to do it as often as I can. Sometimes I don’t have lots of time to spend reading scripture, but hearing God’s truth absorb into my heart through music makes such a world of difference. My attitude toward my kids is life-giving when I have the word of God on my heart! (I use Pandora! Free music all day long!)

I am forever grateful for Missy, and the graceful way she encourages me to be a spirit-filled mom. Do you have more experienced moms in your life who encourage you along the way? If not, reach out and ask someone to mentor you! Could you be that person for someone else? Do you have any fun tips for incorporating the Lord into your day?

Lord, thank you for women in my life who pour into me. Just as they have encouraged me, I pray that you would do the same for them today and surprise them with your goodness and extra energy to continue to serve you!
