If I’m being honest with you, when I sat down to write this post, the first thing that came to mind was how uncomfortable I am talking about my income. I continued writing, though, because my heart reminds me that I’m on this mission to show others what’s possible. And so yes, I’m sharing my income not because I want the world to know how much I’m making, but because if this post helps even one more person to be encouraged that there’s another option, it will be worth it!
I’m a small town girl from northwest Iowa. I grew up on my family’s farm where I was taught the importance of a solid work ethic and was infused with deep Christian values. I was never the top of my class or the best of the best at anything I did, but I’ve always loved people and loved working hard.
Six years ago I became a stay at home mom and loved it at first, but there was a part of me that really missed working outside the home. I started a healthy living blog called “Bring In The Pink” to help fill the void – most of you have never heard of that blog because it was an EPIC FAILURE.
Just before I had my twins, I started Mommy’s Me Time, and started sharing about our crazy life and my reflections on motherhood. Other moms resonated with my words and it started to grow.
I also wanted to use my blog to generate some extra income for our family. But it turned out, that the blogging world had changed quite a bit and it wasn’t easy to grow a significant income as a blogger. The fastest way I could make some extra money was through writing sponsored posts. Those were exciting at first. I’d get picked by a brand to try out their product for free, I’d write a post and they would compensate me. I felt LEGIT! But after a while, it got old. It wasn’t as glamorous as I thought being a sponsored blogger would be. Sure, I was writing about products that fit my readers, but at the end of the day, I didn’t really care THAT much about the things I was sharing about. There wasn’t a strong emotional connection to what I was sharing, and I kind of felt like I was selling myself out. I mean, at one point, I wrote about Jimmy Dean’s breakfast sandwiches for goodness sake! It was the FIRST and LAST time I’ve ever bought those things! Haha!
After I had my fourth baby I was struggling to lose the baby weight. I was also struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety. One day I reached an all time low.
I ended up finding a workout program that changed my life, and found out I could become a coach and help others moms find themselves again through fitness too.
There was one catch. I would have to join the network marketing industry. ? Wasn’t that for people who were REALLY desperate and who didn’t have much else going for them? And wasn’t it just a giant pyramid scheme where I’d have to pester my friends and family? No way did I want to be one of THOSE people!
Hahahahaha…WOW was I ever misinformed! ??
Turns out the network marketing industry is regulated by the federal government so it is definitely NOT a pyramid scheme, and it’s filled with brilliant people from every profession. As a coach, I work alongside doctors and lawyers and nurses and teachers and corporate executives and YES even stay at home moms who want a professional outlet! See, a lot of us have discovered that the typical American dream is awesome, but it might just not be for us. We’ve also discovered that while a career in health and fitness sounds like FUN? Being a personal trainer or group fitness instructor does not bring in the income we desire. I’m at a point in my life when the time that I spend away from my kids needs to be worth it TEN FOLD. Thankfully, we’ve found that there’s another way to work hard, help others, and earn a significant income from home.
As a coach, I get to welcome other women and men into my online accountability groups. I help them find a fitness program and nutrition plan that’s the best fit for where they are starting and what their goals are, and then I get to encourage them in their journey!
I also get to mentor others who want to become successful coaches so that together, we can help WAY MORE people than we can on our own.
And the cool part about this job? The bigger the impact you make, the bigger your income is able to grow as well!
I can hardly believe that in the last MONTH I have brought in $31,420 for our family. Me?! ? Crazy thing is, the way we’re trending, this number will continue to go up. It’s humbling and such an honor to be able to do what I do.
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing moms discover their inner confidence again and helping them provide for their families in a significant way! They get to pick their hours, their schedule, and the trajectory of their income.
For me, blogging + coaching is SO much more rewarding than writing sponsored posts or placing ads on my website! Now I actually get to KNOW my readers and help them in a personal way! Before it felt like blogging was just about me, but now it’s about paying it forward and helping THEM have opportunities too!
I have met some of my very best friends doing this job! Since we all have a passion for health and fitness and a passion for helping others, whenever we attend live events together, it feels like we’ve known each other since birth!
Jake and I now have dear couple friends that we’ve met along the way because of this amazing community! And can I just squeal for a second about how AMAZING it feels to be able to work hard and earn trips where Jake and I can get away and reconnect?
You guys, if a farm girl from Iowa who was struggling with depression and anxiety and had 4 kids under 4 when she started this business can make an impact? If doctors and lawyers and accountants and college grads and stay at home moms and corporate leaders and bloggers and teachers can have success? So can you!
If you WANT a better life for you and your family, you really just have to go out and GET IT! It requires hard work, but it’s TOTALLY POSSIBLE!
