The weeks are seeming to fly by lately, which is a bittersweet thing. As excited as I am to meet my little girls in just five and a half weeks (crazy!), I’m trying to not rush it along so that I can soak up all the one on one moments I have left with Baylen. I’ve been praying a lot for him and the transition, since his entire world is about to be rocked when the little ladies move in.
Yesterday he turned 16 months old, so he’s at that point where he understands quite a bit, but still can’t talk much which I can tell frustrates him sometimes when he’s trying to communicate what he wants. It has been fun to see him put things together though. When I ask him where the babies are he’ll point to my tummy, and when we go upstairs he knows which room is the babies’. Beyond that, I don’t think he really has a clue as to what it means to be a big brother, but I’m actually thankful that he’s young enough where he’ll never remember life without his sisters.
As we enter the final stretch of this pregnancy, here’s what we’ve been up to.
He’s still totally into his vacuum. It’s the first thing he wants to do when he wakes up every morning, bolting for the closet it’s kept in before heading to his high chair for breakfast.
A few out takes from our valentines craft photo shoot the other day. He’s starting to look like such a little man!
A new favorite place to play when I get ready is Mommy and Daddy’s shower. He thinks it’s pretty cool when it’s dry enough to play in and Mommy leaves the door open for him to explore.
Jake and I went on a date for my birthday on Tuesday! I had been craving Chili’s chips and salsa for weeks now, so that’s where I requested to go. I know, I know, I have expensive taste. 😉 Jake’s already requesting a nice steak house for his birthday in April, so I told him I think I should be allowed two birthday dates. After dinner we went to Target and Home Goods. Oh how I appreciate uninterrupted shopping trips when I can leisurely look around without having to anticipate a toddler meltdown. Thank you to everybody who made my birthday special this year!
My good friend sent me the most adorable gift package in the mail. She’s owns a gourmet cupcake business, and made me these adorable cupcakes in jars! She knows how to make my week! She’ll actually be featured on the blog on Tuesday, so be sure to tune in for some tips from a professional!
I ordered these Baby Bjorn bibs for Baylen since he loves to feed himself and is often left with a lap full of crumbs. They are plastic and have big lip to catch food that falls. I absolutely love how easy they are to clean up and have to say they are one of the most useful purchases I’ve made for him.
Now if only I could come up with a solution as to how to teach Baylen NOT to share his food with the doggies, we’d be in business.
A HUGE highlight from the week was getting to see Joey and Madison‘s beautiful new home! They closed on Friday and we got to have a pizza party in their new digs that night! Their house is only about 30 minutes away from ours! We’ve never lived in the same area as family before, and I couldn’t be more excited to have my brother and sister-in-law close by. They’ll still be staying with us some this week until all their stuff arrives, but I’m already missing our roomies! It’s been a fun few weeks living together.
And just like that, here we are about ready to start another week!
Question: If you have more than one child, how did you prepare your firstborn for the arrival(s) of their siblings? How did the transition go? I would sincerely love to hear your experiences and suggestions.
Make it a great week, soaking up each precious moment with your loved ones!

Chili’s really does have the most amazing chips & salsa. I would go there all the time a couple yrs ago just to eat my body weight in them, Ha! I also wanted to say, I don’t think I have ever noticed until this post just how much Baylen looks like his daddy. Seriously, he is your husbands mini-me!
Glad you had a wonderful birthday, Amber!
I went to Chili’s for my birthday too! So great! And, I just want to say that you are looking great, and doing such a fantastic job with Bay! So excited to meet your girlies though!
That’s awesome that you went to Chili’s too! I hope you had a GREAT day…27…crazy! Thank you so much for your sweet encouragement too! 🙂
I’m sure Baylen will do great with the transition to being a big brother! My nephew Connor was 2 1/2 when Owen was born and he really hasn’t seemed to be affected. He doesn’t pay much attention to his baby brother and really only doesn’t like it when Owen cries. It will be a little different for you since it is twins and you will be at home all the time with them (Connor went back to daycare this week). I’ll be praying for a smooth transition! And I love it how Baylen loves the vacuum so much- TOO cute!!
Oh good! I’m so glad to hear that Connor is doing well with the transition! Love hearing stories like that! 🙂
