As I near the finish line of this pregnancy, my body is craving rest. If you’ve been pregnant before you know that the third trimester doesn’t exactly lend itself to getting a good night’s sleep. The many treks to the bathroom, heartburn, leg cramps, and the fact that you can’t get comfortable when you’re in bed with a watermelon where your tummy used to be all contribute to your inability to get good rest. Needless to say my recent bedtime prayers always include asking for the Lord to multiply my hours of sleep and to give me the energy I need to make it through the following day. When you’re pregnant and  also responsible for another child, you can’t just take the next day off or take naps whenever you want!

As much as I’d love a rock solid night’s rest, I’ve actually been thankful for some of the sleepless minutes in the dead of night. Those quiet moments have been peacefully refreshing. Sometimes I think God wakes me up just so we can spend time together reflecting and preparing my heart for what is to come in the next few months. He reminds me to surrender this entire journey into His hands. He’s in control. There’s a reason He chose us to have twins, and I need to trust that He’ll give us every measure of grace we need to raise them and love them just as He wants us to. My life is constantly changing, but He does not. He is ever faithful.

I praise the Lord that He is using my restless nights to give my spiritual body the supernatural rest it needs. When my spirit is full, my perspective is able to stay positive instead of full of self-pity. I love how God always knows what we need so much better than we do, and how he provides for us what we need take make it through each day.

God doesn’t always do what we expect Him to do or what we want Him to do, but He is good. As we go through another week, let’s ask God to give us fresh eyes to focus on what He wants instead of what we do. May our perspectives be enlightened and our selfish desires be put to rest, leaving room to be refreshed in HIS VISION for our lives!

“For you, O Lord, are my Lamp; the Lord lightens my darkness. For by You I run through a troop; by my God I leap over a wall. As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried. He is a Shield to all those who trust and take refuge in Him.” -2 Samuel 22:29-31

How has God unexpectedly enlightened you lately? How has He unexpectedly answered your prayers?

Make it a GREAT week, finding your rest in HIM!

Amber, I just recently found your blog and am so glad I did! I’m a SAHM of a one-year-old boy and expecting a little girl at the beginning of May. Though I wouldn’t trade it for the world, it can be exhausting and draining certain days! Your blog is such an encouragement. The days I feel empty are the days I’m not filled with Him. Thank you for the time you take out of your busy day to write because I love reading!
