God is everywhere. Always. No matter what. And His supernatural power is available to help us in any situation. Even in the matter of crying babies. When you have twins, or lots of littles, you get used to a certain amount of crying in a day, simply because you don’t have enough hands to keep everyone happy. I try very hard to keep it to a minimum, but when I’m alone before nap times or bedtime, there are bound to be meltdowns. In the first few months of being a twin mom, I’ll be honest and tell you that I was an absolute wreck until the screaming subsided. And when it had I would then usually collapse with exhaustion because I had allowed those moments to suck every ounce of joy and energy, feeling guilty that my babies had to cry so much.
While those moments still aren’t much fun, God has given me perspective. Last night I was on bed time duty alone, and Miss Mckinley Jo was making it very clear that she was hungry and ready for her crib. Then Miss Emersyn Jaye followed her sister’s lead and made her voice heard as well. I was racing around changing diapers, putting on jammies, making bottles, finding pacifiers, cleaning Emersyn’s helmet, doing all of it in a bit of a tizzy. Then I walked back to them from the kitchen to find Baylen singing the VeggieTales theme song, which he’s put his heart and soul into learning this week. Per usual, he wasn’t frazzled by their crying, but he wanted to show them love in a way he knew how, so he leaned down by them and gave Emersyn a squeeze. In that moment, God reminded me to take a deep breath and embrace the craziness.
It’s going to be crazy. That’s motherhood, and that’s life. But as Baylen demonstrated, it’s much more effective to remain calm through the chaos. God gives me grace every day to get through it, and I need to depend on that grace instead of my own strength. When I do, I notice that He gives me fuel along the way to keep going, like tuba noises coming from a toddler, which remind me that He is with me in every moment. God is everywhere!
Thank you Lord, for being enough in any situation!
