IMG_9740When Baylen was a newborn, I remember countless nights when Jake and I would sit on the couch and stare for hours on end at our beautiful baby boy. As we chatted about how surreal it felt to be parents, we talked about how crazy it was that this little human would start talking someday and the relationship would be reciprocal! Little did we know at that point that there are so many other ways a baby can tell you they love you.

With each of my three kids, one of my favorite moments was when they started to smile. After those first exhausting and sleep deprived first weeks, seeing those gummy smiles made it all worth it. It’s a baby’s way of saying, “I love you, Mommy!”

Yesterday, there were extra smiles going on. We were going on two nights without Jake, and I think God knew this tired mommy needed a little extra encouragement to make it through until he got home last night! Emersyn and Mckinley were quick to smile and are growing into quite the giggle boxes. My heart fills with joy just thinking about how sweet they are.

Baylen would randomly come up to me and give me a smooch and a hug. And then he’d give Emersyn and Mckinley smooches and hugs.

Oh how I treasure their little acts of love!

It reminded me of how much God treasures our little acts of love. He really does! Loving Him is being faithful in the small decisions we make on a daily basis. Consistently loving the Lord as I go about my most mundane tasks is what will cultivate a lifestyle of faithfulness.

Let’s start small today. Maybe it’s looking up and smiling at Our Creator. Maybe it’s giving him random “smooches” which could be as simple as saying, “Lord, I welcome you into my day!” Or maybe it’s “Lord, give me a desire to want you in my day.”

God wants to meet us where we’re at. He’s okay with us starting small. When we can handle small, then He’ll give us the opportunity to do something big.

My sweet boy turns two next week. He’s reached that point we talked about when he verbally says, “Ov You!” It’s a blessing to watch him grow and become the little boy God designed him to be. May WE also be a blessing to God as He watches us grow in love with HIM!

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” -Luke 16:10

“We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.” -Mother Teresa
