If you’ve been reading my blog for a little while now, you know that our sweet Emersyn started wearing a cranial molding helmet at the end of August. You can read about our reasons for deciding to go forward with the helmet here.
After four months of faithfully wearing her helmet 23 out of 24 hours a day, our little princess is finished! We are thrilled with the results. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen this already, but the before and after is quite incredible. Just before she got her helmet I remember thinking it was such a big deal. My baby was going to look so different! I was a little nervous about how to get it on and off, the extra work it would take to clean and take care of it, and how she would handle it in general. It turned out to be a piece of cake. She adapted within a day or so, and hardly ever fussed, even when we had to take it off each day for cleaning. She slept well, and was happy as can be. Knowing that she was comfortable gave me reassurance that we had made the right decision and that we’d be able to persevere to get the results we hoped for.
We live in the Twin Cities area and had a couple places to choose from for service. After talking with Emersyn’s physical therapist, we decided to go through Orthotic Care Services because they use the STARband helmet which she believed had several benefits over the other forms of therapy. Not only was the technology awesome, but the customer service the orthotists provided was over the top. We had to go in every 2 – 3 weeks for measuring and adjustments, and each time we were greeted by friendly and welcoming faces who truly cared about delivering the best results for Emersyn. We built a great relationship with them, and Emersyn was chosen to be a little helmet model for them!
You can check out her 15 minutes of fame here. If you’re a parent on the fence about whether or not to put your little one in a helmet, this video answers lots of questions and also gives lots of great information about care, usage, ect.
I’m so happy we did it. The four months flew by, and I’m so thankful we were able to give Emersyn the gift of a round head. It seems like a small sacrifice to make when you think about the fact that she’ll get to enjoy it the rest of her life!
Here’s a highlight reel from Emersyn’s helmet wearing days. She was such a trooper!
We are beyond thankful for modern technology! A huge thanks to all of you who supported us through this little journey!
