Here’s the full story!
I always wanted to be one of those moms who had a perfect meal plan, and gorgeous home cooked dinners on the table each night. I pictured myself like those moms on magazine covers, where the family is sitting around this beautifully decorated table, smiling at each other and in pure DELIGHT just because they’re together. Afterall, when Jake and I were first married I cooked a lot. It was fun back then! I imagined it would only get better with kids! (My pre-mom self was so naive! ?)
When I had 4 kids under 4 hanging at my feet every evening when I was trying to cook, it was the last thing from relaxing or fun. If I had a centerpiece on the table it was often moved and set up high where they couldn’t destroy it. Getting them all to sit at the table at the same time was a full time job, and instead of smiles there was constant whining and crying and STRESSING. I would put so much work into a meal that NO ONE appreciated or barely touched.
It didn’t take me long to learn I wasn’t going to continue spending so much time in the kitchen. We kept it super simple if we made dinner at home, but there were SO many nights when life was just too crazy and we’d end up grabbing take-out or fast food.
I knew we were in survival mode, but I wasn’t satisfied with the path we were on. No matter how crazy our life was, meal time was constantly on the back of my mind! I wanted to feel the peace of knowing that as a mom I was doing whatever I could to instill healthy habits into our family. But it felt impossible.
Two years ago when I was in the thick of all this, we launched a branch of our business that included a family meal planning service called Take Back The Kitchen. We have helped thousands of families get started on the right path! ??
It has been AWESOME to watch moms feel EMPOWERED to take back their kitchens and prioritize family meal times.
One piece that we feel has still been missing though, is the WHY behind why healthy eating matters, and a crash course about nutrition in general. With so many fad diets and gimmicks out there claiming to be the answer, it can be so confusing to know what to believe, and what to teach our kids.
The most important thing to our team is teaching sustainable healthy eating that you can actually maintain over the long haul. We want to instill habits into our children that they can carry with them so that they don’t have to struggle to figure it out like we have.
